Hello from The Attic, thank you for dropping by. This is my first post for this particular blog and as you can see it is still 'work in progress'. I have been meaning for sometime to post on here but time goes by so quickly.
~~~~~~~
One of my many interests is WW1 and in particular the role women played. As a former psychiatric nurse I obviously have an added interest in the Red Cross and it's members....
I have nothing but admiration and respect for the women & girls who without hesitation volunteered to serve.
~~~~~~~
On the outbreak of war in August 1914 the British Red Cross and Order of St. John formed the Joint War Committe. Members were organised into Voluntary Aid Detachments (the term VAD later came to be used)
~~~~~~~
I would like to share with you some of the vintage photographs I have in my collection. Many of these women came from sheltered, privileged lives and faced unimaginable horrors and yet faced this with bravery and committment both at home and overseas....
