Clutter to Go or Is It Treasure?

*************************

*************************

Hello from the Attic. I've not long finished watching The Biggest Loser Couples USA finale. What a group of amazing people. In my eyes they are all winners because to take the first step on the road to lose weight is the hardest thing to do. Then to stay on that road and achieve great weight loss is admirable. It is inspiring and I have decided to embark on that journey myself. After maintaining a healthy weight when I was younger the last few years have been a stuggle for me and the stones have piled on. The only weight I have been loosing the past few weeks is from the ''treasures'' I have collected from the year dot..lol....

~~~~~~~
Much as I loath to part with anything I know it's time to take stock and de-clutter big time. I have attempted to do this over the last two years but have had so many interuptions and my son didn't move his last bits of furniture, etc, out until two months ago. To quote a statement I made on my blog The Primitive Cornish Hovel... ''I am living with Clutter and Clutter is living with me. When does a collection become a burden, treasure become trash and a home become a storeroom'' ....
~~~~~~~

So I have been really good and taken loads to the local charity shop. My system is simple....to stay, to go, to sell. Things to go are taken asp so I am not tempted to look through again just to make sure (you know what that is like, fatal..lol..). The things to sell are listed asp aswell. I do have some things on ebay at present and thought I would show you some of them...

Four Attendence Medals Awarded to E Jones 1902, 1903, 1905 & 1906

Collection of Aviation Interest, etc, Formerly Belonging to the Cartwright Family of Islington

Collection of School Certificates, Reports, Photos, etc, formerly belonging to the Littlewood Family of Sheffield and later Penzance

School Photographs From the Above Collection

The collection that I am more attached to is the one seen below. As a family historian I appreciate the value of what it contains. For this collection I carried out research and complied a detailed geneaogy descendent report from 1823 t0 1966. Before this it was an interesting rare collection, hence my purchasing it. By researching the family however I feel I've got to know them, how they lived and their occupations, etc. I only wish I had such a collection for my ancestors. But alas I have set myself a challenge to reduce my ''clutter'' by at least 50% so sentiment has been put aside....

Below is some of the items from the collection containing imformation relating to the Cannon family of Newington but I purchased it from Brighton, West Sussex where the last couple settled...
.

Collection of BMD Certificates, Letters, etc Relating to the Cannon Family

Small Certificater Holder 1858. (I have never seen anything like this before nor a certificate this old)

The Marriage Certificate that is Attached inside the above Holder. The Marriage of George Jame Cannon & Elizabeth Jane Cannon March 7 1858 (the certificate is actually cream in colour and made of what appears to be Velum. My scanner caused the browning as seen above)

Birth Certificate of the grandson of the above Couple. William Charles Cannon born 12 April 1891

Marriage Certificate For William Charles Cannon & Elsie Ada Patrick April 17 1920

A Booklet Relating to the Death of William Arthur Patrick, Father of Elsie Ada Patrick

I hope this collection goes to a deserving home and helps someone with their family history research.
