Autumn Has Arrived

**********************

**********************

Welcome to the First Day of Autumn. Summer has officially left and the chill of Autumn is definitely here. A season when nature's colours turn to bronze, gold and amber. Leaves will now begin to fall in abundance and wildlife prepare for winter. Judging by the amount of berries still on a holly bush near me, we could be in for a cold winter. Time to sort out the winter woolies I think. Enjoy Autumn....

Until next time,take care..Hugs Chrissy xx

Vintage Film Stars and Fashion

Hello from The Attic.....Are you like me and wonder if you were born in the wrong era? I certainly think that considering I like old houses and vintage furniture, etc. And it doesn't stop there, vintage clothing also features in my many passions....

~~~~~~~
My favourite eras for fashion and decor are the 1920's, 1930's and 1940s. A good platform for exhibiting fine examples of this is seen on the big screen...
~~~~~~~

With the creation of movies a new set of film stars emerged in the 1920's and 1930's. Not only were they recognized for their presence on the screen actors also became fashion icons....

Gloria Swanson ~ 1899-1983 ~

Louise Brooks ~ 1906-1985 ~

From the begining of the silent movie to the present day what was seen on the big screen influenced the fashion trend worn by the public. From shoes, dresses to hairstyles, women tried to emulate their screen idols....

Clara Bow ~ 1905-1965 ~

Mary Pickford ~ 1892-1979 ~

Marion Davies ~ 1897-1961 ~

Lillian Gish ~ 1893-1993 ~

Vilma Banky ~ 1893-1991 ~

Norma Talmadge ~ 1894-1957 ~

Dolores Costello ~ 1903-1979 ~

Anna Q Nilsson ~ 1888-1974 ~

Corrine Griffith ~ 1894-1979 ~

Anita Page ~ 1910-2008 ~

Woman were seen on screen to evolve from the dramatic Damsel in Distress of the silent movies into strong, glamorous women by the 1930's....

Greta Garbo ~ 1905-1990 ~

Jean Harlow ~ 1911-1937 ~

Carole Lombard ~ 1908-1942 ~

Marlene Dietrich ~ 1901-1992 ~

Fay Wray ~ 1907-2004 ~

Barbara Stanwyck ~ 1907-1990 ~

Bette Davis ~ 1908-1989 ~

Ginger Rogers ~ 1911-1995 ~

Whatever the decade, film has always influenced what we wear but for me the 1920's and 1930's are the decades that showed glamour at it's best....

~~~~~~~
Some of the woman shown here died young but many lived a long life. Regardless of how long they lived they have been immortalized on the big screen....
I thought of you today, but that is nothing new
I thought about you yesterday and days before that too
I think of you in silence, I often speak your name
All I have is memories and a picture in a frame
Your memory is a keepsake, from which I'll never part
God has you in his arms, I have you in my heart
